John William Wardle was born in 1897 the son of Frederick a coal miner hewer and Emma Wardle née Carter and the brother of Nellie, Reggie, Emily, Frederick and Lily Wardle. Frederick was born in 1870 and Emma Carter was born in 1873 both were born in Church Gresley, married in 1893 they had 9 children, In 1911 the family lived at 15 Mayfield Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire

Military History

Private John William Wardle enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Kirkby in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 30th September 1918 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois memorial, Pas De Calais, France
