Family History

John William Sweeting was born in 1892 the son of John a coal miner stallman and Elizabeth Ann Sweeting née Brazier and the brother of Louisa, James, George, Ellen, Phoebe, Frances and Leonard Sweeting. John was born in 1872 at Ripley, Elizabeth Ann Brazier was born in 1873 at Bilston, Staffordshire, they were married on 2nd May 1892 at Shirland, Derbyshire and went on to have 8 children. In 1911 the family lived at 12 Bannerman Road Kirkby in Ashfield. His pension record cards shows a second dependant - Frances Ethel Burton (later Porter) of 14 Montague Road, Hucknall guardian of an illegitimate child

Military History

Private John William Sweeting enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the service number 49829 in the Royal Garrison Artillery, he died of wounds on 25th January 1918 and is buried at Merville Communal Cemetery, France.
