Family History

Willis Albert Robinson was born in 1892 at Hucknall and was the son of Albert a coal miner and Sarah Robinson née Alton of 46 Prospect Street, East Kirby, Nottinghamshire. His father Albert was born in 1872 at Kimberley and his mother Sarah Alton was born in 1875 at Bulwell, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Willis Albert b1892 Hucknall, Esther b1893 Hucknall, Mary Ann b1895 Hucknall, Edgar b1903 East Kirkby and Leonard b1908 East Krikby. In 1911 census the family are living at 46 Prospect Street East Kirkby and are shown as Albert 39 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Sarah 34 yrs and their children Willis Albert 18 yrs a coal miner gang lad, Esther 17 yrs working at tin mill, Mary Ann 16 yrs working at tin mill, Edgar 8 yrs and Leonard 3 yrs.

Military History

Private Willis Albert Robinson enlisted at Newark whilst residing at East Kirkby he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 16th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
