Family History

Charles Henry was born in 1893 the son of Jack a coal miner and Emma Brown née Bowler of Kirkby in Ashfield. Jack Brown was born in 1866 at Kirkby, Emma Bowler was born in 1864 at Denby, they had 4 children. Charles Henry married Elsie May Cutts (born 6th December 1894 ) in 1913 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at Ellis Street, Kirkby and had two sons Reuben born 1913 and John William born 6th December 1914. Commencing 3rd February 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence. His widow re married in 1919 to James Appleby and they lived at 73 George Street Hucknall Torkard.

Military History

Gunner Charles Henry Brown enlisted at Nottingham he Served as a gunner in the 24th Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery. He died of wounds on 17th July 1918 and is buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
