Family History

John Charles Moore and Edith Ward married in 1892. Their children were all boys and consisted of John Tom born 1893 in Whitwell, Derbyshire, Frederick Oscar born 1896, Norton, Notts, Leonard born 1897 Norton, Cyril Charles born 13/1/1900, Norton, Albert Ernest born 1902, Norton and Arthur Wallace born 1904 Norton. In 1911 the family were still in Norton and the three eldest boy were working as general labourers for the Duke of Portland on the Welbeck estate. John Charles also worked on the estate as a carter for the wood department.

Military History

Leonard was attested on 22 May 1915 at Worksop age 19. He was killed in action and as he had no known grave, he was commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

CWG additional information:- Son of John Charles and Edith Moore of Holbeck Woodhouse, Welbeck, Worksop. His brother Cyril Charles Moore was also killed in the war on the 21 October 1918
