Family History

Ernest Harold Harrison was born in 1893 he was the son of John an assurance agent and Eliza Matilda Harrison née Dance. Ernest Harold married Ann Coulson (born 20th July 1894 at the Nottingham Registrar office on 3rd May 1913, they lived at 17 Meden Bank, Stanton Hill, they had 3 children, Cyril Ernest born 29th May 1913, Percy Howard born 3rd July 1916 and John Charles born 17th March 1916. Commencing 1st April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week. His widow Ann married Alfred Huffen in 1919.

Military History

Private Ernest Harold Harrison enlisted on 27th April 1915 at Mansfield aged 21 yrs 160 days he was a fitter he was posted to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to Gallipoli on 13th September 1915. He was taken ill and was admitted to the 33rd Field Ambulance at Ballah, Egypt. He went to France on 28th June 1916 and was admitted to 35 Field Ambulance suffering a hydrocele (swollen scrotum), on 25th July 1916. He was transferred to the 1st General Hospital at Etretat, France and sent to England on Hospital Ship Gloucester Castle, on 2nd August 1916. He was posted to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 4th August 1916 and returned to France on 22nd May 1917 being posted to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 15th June 1917 and died of wounds on 15th September 1917, aged 25.
