John Thomas Hardwick was born in 1887 he was the son of Thomas a jobbing gardener and the late Ann Hardwick née Mellors, Brother of Mabel and Wilfred Hardwick of Caxton, Terrace, Mansfield. Thomas was born in 1857 at Pleasley, Ann Mellors was born in 1859 at Warsop died 1895 aged 36 yrs, they were married in 1879 at Mansfield. His widowed father Thomas was living at 4 Caxton Terrace, Mansfield in the 1911 census, he is shown as being 54 yrs widowed and a jobbing gardener, he is living with his children, Annie Elizabeth 31 yrs, John Thomas 24 yrs a domestic gardener, Mabel 21 yrs a hosiery worker and Wilfred 19 yrs John Thomas married Charlotte Bird (born 3rd November 1883) they married on 8th April 1912 at Pinxton, they lived at 14 The Park, Mansfield, had two children, Thomas William born 14th January 1913 and John Edward born 4th December 1915 Commencing 23rd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week. .

Military History

Private John Thomas Hardwick enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 and is buried at Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 1 Row N, Grave 4.
