Lewis Swindell

Lewis Swindell was born in 1893 at Sutton in Ashfield and was the son of John Kinsey Swindell an insurance agent and Mary Anne Swindell née Eyley they lived at 11 Forest Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. His father John Kinsey was born in 1854 in Moria, Leicestershire and his mother Mary Ann Eyley was born in 1858 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married in 1875 at Burton upon Trent and went on to have 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Eva b1881 at Church Greasley, Albert Henry b1884 Church Greasley, Emma b1890 Sutton in Ashfield, Lewis b1893 Sutton in Ashfield and John Ernest b1897 at Sutton in Ashfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at 11 Forest Street, Sutton in Ashfield and are shown as John Kinsey 57 yrs an insurance agent, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 53 yrs and their children, Albert Henry 27 yrs a butcher, Emma 21 yrs a school teacher, Lewis 18 yrs a clerk and John Edward 14 yrs a butchers assistant. His probate was proven on 21st December 1917 at Nottingham and shows him as Lewis Swindell of 13 Dalestorth Street, Sutton in Ashfield, a Lance Corporal in H.M.Army, died on 28th September 1917 in France, his effects of £90 were left to Mary Swindell widow. His brother Albert Henry was married on 5th April 1915 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Reform Street, Sutton in Ashfield, to Lily Bridgett Cochrane, they went on to have a daughter Kathleen Mary born 1st February 1917, they lived at 11 Forest Road, Sutton in Ashfield.
