He was the son of Edward and Susannah Soar and the brother of Jane Soar. In 1911 they lived at 314 Mansfield Road Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Corporal Samuel Soar, M.M., enlisted at Mansfield and served with the 14th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Landing in France on 2nd December 1915, he was killed in action on 2nd September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. His Military Medal was published in the 'London Gazette,' 10th August 1916.
