Family History

Cooling Henry Reavill was born in 1884 at Ollerton the son of John Henry a builder and Rebecca Reavill née Cooling of Boughton Road, Ollerton His father John Henry was born in 1859 at Ompton and his mother Rebecca Cooling was born in 1853 at Bassingham, Lincolnshire, they were married on 19th April 1881 their marriage was recorded in Southwell Registration district and went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Millicent b1883, Cooling b1884, Brace b1887 and Lillian b18888 all were born at Ollerton. Cooling married Sarah Jane Butler on 8th September 1906 at the register office at Southwell, they went on to have 3 children, Millicent b1908, Constance Annie b1884 Rufford and Phyllis Bertha b1916 all were born in Boughton they lived at of Sunnyside Villa, Boughton. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Boughton Road, Ollerton and are shown as John Henry 52 yrs a builder, he is living with his wife Rebecca 59 yrs. In the same 1911 census we find Cooling Henry living at Boughton and is shown as Cooling Henry Reavill 26 yrs a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Sarah Jane 27 yrs and their daughter Doris 3 yrs

Military History

Private Cooling Henry Reavill enlisted at Newark, he initially served with the service number 177396 in the Royal Engineers. He was kiiled in action on 8th June 1917 whilst serving with the 9th battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
