Charles Edgar Harrison was born in 1879 at Farndon and was the son of John a school master and Fanny Harrison of Farndon Newark. His father John William Harrison was born in 1846 at St Ives, Huntingdonshire, and his mother Fanny was born in 1843 in Worcestershire. They were married prior to 1874 and had the following children, John Thomas b1874, Quorndon, Leicestershire, Margaret Annie b1877 Farndon and Charles Edgar b1879 Farndon. He married Eleanor Ann Mayfield (b1881 Farndon) in 1909 , their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration District, they lived at 'Bethulie' Farndon Road Newark and had a son John Charles Harrison born 16th December 1911. In the 1911 census Charles Edgar Harrison is shown as being 32 yrs and a brewers clerk living with his wife Eleanor 30 yrs at 'Bethulie, Farndon Road, Newark. Probate, proven on 8th December 1915 at Nottingham shows him as Charles Edgar Harrison of Bethulie, Farndon Road, Newark, Lance Sergeant in HM Army died 5th October 1915 in France, Administration of his effects of £1557, 1 shilling and 10 pence was awarded to John Thomas Harrison a company secretary and Eleanor Harrison widow.
Lance Sergeant Charles Edgar Harrison attested on 8th August 1914 at Newark, he gave his age as 35 yrs 5 months and his occupation as a brewers clerk, his address was 'Bethulie' Farndon Road, Newark and his next of kin was his wife Eleanor of the same address. He was posted to the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters, and promoted to Lance Corporal on 23rd February 1915. He landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was promoted to Lance Sergeant on 20th March 1915. He was killed in action on 5th October 1915 and is buried in Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos, Pas de Calais, France (grave ref. III.K10).

Harrison Fanny died 27 Jun 1919 aged 76yr Also John died 23 Feb 1926 aged 80 yr Also Charles Edgar killed in action 5 Oct 1915 aged 36 yr Also Margaret Annie died 1 Jan 1942 interred Lenton aged 42 yr Also John Thomas” Article published on 22nd April 1916 in the Newark Herald :- 'Youngest son of John & Fanny Harrison of Farndon. Husband of Eleanor A. Harrison, “Bethulie”, Farndon Road, Newark. Previously served in South African (Boer) War. Killed by a shell along with L/Cpl. E. Hale, another member of his signalling section. News received in a letter from Sgt. W. Burton of Winthorpe. Brother-in-law, John Mayfield, taken prisoner in 1917. In 1916 a memorial window for Charles Harrison was installed in the Lady Chapel of St. Peters, Farndon. (In early October 1915 the 1/8th Foresters held trenches near the ‘lone tree’ in front of Vermelles. On the morning of the 5th a shell landed among a party of signallers, killing four and another died of his wounds the following day).'
