Edward Harry Mutten was born on 12th September 1892 at Kettering and was baptised on 23rd October 1892 at St Andrews Church at Kettering, he was the son of Harry Mutten a box manufacture and Mary Elizabeth Mutten née Loasby of 34 Leicester Street, Kettering. His father Harry Mutten was born in 1869 at Kettering and his mother Mary Elizabeth Loasby was born in 1873 also at Kettering they were married on 18th April 1892 at St Peters and St Pauls at Kettering, and went on to have the following children, Edward Harry b1892, Herbert Lawrence b1894, Winifred Helena b1896, Cyril Ezra b1900, Albert William b1902, Sydney George b1904 and Dennis John b1906, all were born in Kettering. In the 1911 census the family are living at 34 Leicester Street, Kettering and are shown as Harry Mutten 42 yrs a box manufacturer, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 38 yrs and their children Edward Harry 18 yrs an ironstone labourer, Herbert Lance 17 yrs an apprentice printer, Winifred Helena 15 yrs a shoe hand, Cyril Ezra 11 yrs a scholar, Albert William 9 yrs a scholar, Sydney George 7 yrs a scholar, and Denis John 5 yrs of age. Edward Mutten married his wife Mary Ann Sibcy in 1913 at Newark, they lived at 5, Eggleston's Yard, Lombard St., Newark.
Private Edward Henry Mutten enlisted in September 1914 at Newark whilst residing at Luton, Bedfordshire. He was posted to the 1/8th Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed in France on 28th June 1915. He was killed in action, shot by a sniper on 17th April 1916 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
a.k.a. 'MUTTON' Article published 10th May 1916 in the Newark Advertiser :- Husband of Mary Ann Mutton (nee Sibcy), 5 Eggleston’s Yard, Lombard Street, Newark. Worked for Messrs. Cafferata and in September 1914 joined the Sherwoods, proceeding to Luton and hence to France in June 1915. His brother-in-law Pte. Samuel Sibcy was with him at the time of his death.
