Arthur Simpson was born in 1893 the son of George a coal miner hewer and Sarah Jane Simpson née Wilde and the brother of Charles Henry, Wilfred, Gertrude, Ernest and George Simpson, of 14 King Street Kirkby in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. George was born in 1861 and Sarah Jane Wilde was born in 1860 both were born in Kirkby in Ashfield, married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 9 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Private Arthur Simpson, enlisted at Mansfield, he was killed in action on 15th April 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
