William Arthur Newcombe was born in 1888 the son of Philip a draper and his first wife the late Martha Newcombe née Farnsworth of Station Street East Kirkby Nottinghamshire. Phillip was born in 1860 at Shelford, Martha Farnsworth was born in 1847 at Selston, she died in 1902 aged 55 yrs, married in 1878 at Nottingham they went on to have 7 children. His father remarried in 1903 to Elizabeth Wharmby born 1867 at Selston, and had 2 further children.

Military History

Bombardier William Arthur Newcombe enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'D' Battery 107th brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died of wounds at 6th General Hospital, Rouen, France and was buried at St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France
