Frederick Hayes Heighway was born in 1896 the son of Thomas a coal miner hewer and the late Fredrica Mary Heighway née Clarke of 65 Gladstone Street, East Kirkby Thomas was born in 1869 at Malinslee, Shropshire, Fredrica Mary Clarke was born in 1876 at Blackwell she died in 1907 aged 28 yrs married in 1894 they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 the widowed Thomas 42 yrs was living at 65 Gladstone Street, with a housekeeper Catherine Gore and 5 of his children, In 1911 Frederick Hayes Heighway is living at 98 Low Moor Road East Kirkby with his grandparents Thomas and Catherine Clarke, he is 14 yrs of age and colliery ganger and is also living with his sister Clara 10 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Frederick Hayes Heighway enlisted at Newark whilst residing at East Kirkby, he was killed in action on 29th August 1918 and is buried at Fouquieres Churchyard Extension, France. Plot 4. Row E. Grave 10.
