Benjamin was born on 26th April 1895 in Retford and was baptised on 2nd June 1895 at All Saints Church, Silkstone with Stainsborough and was the son of Francis and Mary Joan Vernon Hutsman (nee Wentworth ) of West Retford Hall, Retford, He was educated at Cambridge Trinity College.Probate record show him as Benjamin Canning Huntsman of West Retford Hall and Captain in the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys ) Regiment who died on 7th April 1917 his will was administered on 28th June 1917 in London and his estate valued at £10189, 7 shillings an d 3 pence went to his widowed mother Mary Joan Huntsman

Benjamin served with the 2/8bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys ) regiment , he was killed in action on 7th April 1917 , he has no known gave and his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.
