John Warner

He had served in France for less than a month when he was killed. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Boots ‘Comrades in Khaki’, December 1915, ‘Dead on the Field of Honour’ (photograph): ‘Pte J Warner. Brief reference was made in November’s issue to the death of Pte. Warner in action. J Warner, who had been engaged with Boots at Bond Street, Leeds, for a couple of years, joined the West Yorkshires, with which regiment he proceeded to France. After service for a fortnight at the base, the West Yorkshires were sent up to the trenches, and a week later young Warner, who was then in the firing line, lost his life in the engagement at Loos on September 26th 1915. Esteemed by all his fellow workers during life, he is now affectionately remembered by them as one who was unselfish, helpful and upright’. (Nottinghamshire Archives, ref. RB.38)
