187th Special Coy. He initially joined the East Surrey Regiment and later transferred to the Royal Engineers. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Boots ‘Comrades in Khaki’, December 1915, ‘Dead on the Field of Honour’: Corpl RA Pool. On the outbreak of the war, one of the first of the married men to volunteer for service was RA Pool of the South Norwood branch, who joined the East Surrey Regiment. A few months ago he was transferred to the 187th regiment RE and in command of the 12th Section of that regiment fell at Loos. He was a man of good abilities and sterling character, and leaves a widow to whom everyone will extend the deepest sympathy.’ (Nottinghamshire Archives, ref. RB.38)
