Family History

Robert Davis was born in 1885 at Normanton on the Wolds and was the son of the late Thomas a labourer and Mary Jane Davis née Tolliday of Normanton on the Wolds. His father was born in 1844 at Plumtree, he died in 1906 aged 62 yrs, his mother Mary Jane Tolliday was born in 1846 at Redmile, they were married on 6th May 1867 and they went on to have the following children, Samuel b1868, Sarah b1869, William b1873, George b1878, Kate b1883, Robert b1885, Ruth b1888 and Annie b1890. In the 1911 census Robert is living with his widowed mother at Normanton on the Wolds, they are shown as Mary Jane Davis 65 yrs a widow. she is living with her son Robert 26 yrs a groom. Robert married Annie Blagg (born 12th December 1883 ) in 1913 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district. Following his death his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 22 shillings a week which commenced on 16th June 1919 she later lived at Long Acre Bingham Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Private Robert Davis served with the Army Service Corps and was with 'R' Siege Park attd XVII Corps Heavy Artillery. He died of influenza on 3rd December 1918 at the 4th Canadian Casualty Clearing station, France. He is buried at Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery Grave Reference: I F 32
