Family History

Edgar Jepson was born in 1894 at Brinsley and was the son of Enoch a coal miner and Sarah Jepson née Buckley of 25 Nethergreen Eastwood Nottinghamshire. His father Enoch was born in 1862 at Brinsley and his mother Sarah Buckley was born in 1866 also in Brinsley, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 13 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Horace b1886 Brinsley, Henrietta b1887 Brinsley, Enoch b1892 Brinsley, Edgar b1894 Brinsley, Kenneth b1887 Aldecar, Walter b1901 Aldecar, Fanny b1902 Brinsley, Stephen b1904 Brinsley, Ellen b1907 Brinsley and Doris b1910 Brinsley. In the 1911 census the family are living at New Inn Houses, Brinsley and are shown as Enoch 48 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Sarah 45 yrs and their children, Henrietta 24 yrs no occupation listed, Enoch 19 yrs a coal miner, Edgar 17 yrs a hardware shop assistant, Kenneth 14 yrs a coal miner, Walter 10 yrs a scholar,, Fanny 9 yrs a scholar, Stephen 7 yrs a scholar, Ellen 4 yrs and Doris 1 year old.

Military History

He enlisted in Nottingham in April 1915. Having served in India and Egypt, he was drafted to France in early July 1916 and was reported missing on August 7th that year and later confirmed killed in action on that date. He is buried at in Delville Wood Cemetery.
