Edward James Kemp was born in 1880 at West Malling Kent he was the son of Thomas James Kemp born 1852 Mereworth, Kent and Alice Kemp née Orpin born 1854 at Waterinbury, Kent. Edward James married his wife Georgine Kemp née Kemp on 17th August 1902 at St Marks Church, Islington, London, and the father of Dorothy Violet Jenny born 6th February 1903 at Clerkenwell and Alastair Raymond Edward Kemp born 24th August 1904 at Clerkenwell In 1911 the family lived at Brackenhurst Cottages, Southwell Nottinghamshire and were shown as Edward James 30 yrs a butler, he is living with his wife Georgina 36 yrs and their children, Dorothy Violet 8 yrs and Allester Raymond 6 yrs of age Georgiana later lived at Vicar's Court Southwell.

Military History

Gunner Edward James Kemp enlisted on 26th November 1915 at Southwell, he gave his age as 35 yrs and 5 months, his address as Brackenhurst Cottage, Southwell, he gave his occupation as that of a butler and his next of kin was his wife Georgina of the same address. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 12th July 1916 .Posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery on 14th July 1916 he served with the 44th brigade, he embarked from Southampton on 29th August 1916 , landing at Le Harve the following day. He was killed in action on 21st March 1918 he is buried at Beuvry Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.
