John James Revill was born on 28th December 1888, he was baptised on 20th November 1888 at Pnxton, he was the son of Matthew Revill a coal miner and Mary Ann Revill née Mansfield of 46 Kirkstead Row, Pinxton. Matthew Revill was born in 1870 at Smalley, Derbyshire, Mary Ann Mansfield was born in 1863 at Tamworth, Staffordshire, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Belper registration district, they had a further two son Dennis born 1894 at Pinxton and George born 1904 at Pinxton. . In the 1911 census the family are living at 46 Kirkstead Row,, Pinxton, Matthew 56 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his two sons Dennis 17 yrs and George 7 yrs. John James married Elizabeth Ann (born 13th April 1891) they lived at 24 Pinxton Rows Kirkston ? Nottinghamshire they had a son John Walter Revill born 6th July 1914. Commencing 15th November 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week

Military History

Private John James Revill enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Pinxton, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Forestrs Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th April 1915 and is buried at Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, France.

Extra Information

His brother Private Denis Revill enlisted at Mansfield he served with the service number 16413 in the Sherwood Forester Regiment, landing in France on 24th March 1915 he was killed in action on 5th March 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial
