Family History

David Wightman was born in 1889 at Selston, he was the son of the late William a sawyer and woodcutter and Emma Wightman née Cook of 138 New Houghton. Pleasley. William was born in 1852 at Kirkby he died in 1896 aged 45 yrs, Emma Cook was born in 1851 at Greasley, they were married on 24th October 1880 at St Wilfrid's Church, Kirkby in Ashfield, they went on to have 10 children. In 1911 the family are living at 138 New Houghton, Pleasley, Emma 60 yrs is a widow, she is living 4 of her children including David 22 yrs a coal miner.

Military History

Gunner David Wightman enlisted at Mansfield he served with the Siege Anti-aircraft group, Royal Garrison Artillery, he died of wounds on 17th May 1918 and is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
