Thomas William Tagg born 1885 the son of John Thomas a colliery winding engine man and Fortuna Ann Tagg née Waterall of Toad Hall Cottage, Selston. John Thomas was born in 1863 at Codnor, Fortuna Ann Waterall was born in 1865 at Selston, married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Arthur Frost Tagg b1885 Nottingham, their remaining children were all born in Selston and were Thomas William b1885, Frank b1887, Elsie b1893, Ida Grace b1899, and John Waterall b1903. Thomas married Annie Chadwin born 3rd December 1884 in 1906, their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had a daughter Gwendolyn Ida Tagg born 15th May 1907 and lived at Albert Avenue Jacksdale Nottinghamshire. In 1911 Thomas William is living at Albert Ave, Jacksdale and is shown as Thomas William 26 yrs a pipe maker, he is living with his wife Ann 26 yrs and their daughter Gwendolyn Ida 3 yrs of age. In 1911 his parents and siblings are living at Toad Hole Cottage, Selston and are shown as John Thomas a colliery winding engine man, living with his wife Fortuna Ann and their children, Frank a brickmaker, Ida Grace a scholar, and John Waterall a scholar. Following Thomas's death his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 9th July 1917.
Private Thomas William Tagg enlisted on 8th June 1916 at Eastwood whilst residing at Jacksdale, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment in France from October the same year. He died of wounds on 24th December 1916 and is buried at Essex Farm Cemetery grave 2.J.7
