Family History

Royal Murray was born in 1881 at Lancaster and was the adopted son of the late Joseph a railway labour Lineker and Annie Lineker née Clay of Spring Terrace, Southwell His adopted father Joseph Lineker was born in 1845 at Southwell he died in 1892 at Southwell aged 47 yrs and his mother Annie Clay was born in 1843 also at Southwell, they were married in 1868 at Southwell In the 1891 census the family are living at Spring Terrace, Southwell and Royal Murray is living with them , he is 7 yrs of age and he was their adopted son. In the 1911 census the family are still living at Spring Terrace and are shown as Annie Lineker 68 yrs a widow, she is living with her son Joseph 36 yrs a cotton weigher and her adopted son Royal Murray 26 yrs a brass bobbin winder.

Military History

Private Royal Murray enlisted at Newark and served in the 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action on 4th November 1917 and is buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, Pas de Calais, France.
