Family History

Augustus Wyles was born in 1869 at Westhorpe, Southwell and was the son of Anna Maria Wyles born 1829 in Suffolk and the brother of Arthur b1863, John born 1865 and Fanny Wyles born 1876. In 1871 and 1881 the family lived at Westhorpe Southwell. In the 1911 census Augustus is living at The Hop Yard, Southwell, he is shown as being 42 yrs of age and a general labourer, he is shown as a stepson and is living with Thomas Moore 64 yrs a widow

Military History

Private Augustus Wyles enlisted at Newark whilst residing at Southwell, he initialled served with the service number 3419 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the Rifle Brigade with the service number 204200. At the time of his death from pneumonia on 19th October 1917 at Alexandria he was serving with the 802nd Area Employment Company. He is buried at Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery Egypt Grave Reference: D 195
