Harry Dorn was born in 1894 in Nottingham and was the son of Benjamin Dorn and his wife Alice Elizabeth Dorn née Jefferies. His parents were married in 1892; the marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. He had two siblings Sarah b1896 and Fred b1898. His mother died in 1899 and his father in 1906. In 1911 he lived with his aunt and uncle, Mary and George Walter, at 70 Mason Street, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
Private Harry Dorn, enlisted at Sutton In Ashfield and initially served with the service number 13446 in the Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 3rd June 1915 and was serving with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment when he was killed in action on 20th June 1916. He was buried in Norfolk Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt (grave ref. I. C. 71).
CWGC headstone personal inscription: 'In loving memory not lost but gone before' Article published 14th July 1916 in the Mansfield Reporter and Sutton Times :- “SUTTON SOLDIER'S DEATH. “Private H. Dorn, 14018, 1st Lincolnshire Regiment, of Grove-road, Sutton, was officially reported a few days ago as killed in action on June 20th. The deceased soldier, who was 22 years of age, enlisted in September, 1914, previous to which he was engaged at the Summit Colliery.
