Walter Robinson was born in 1897 at Southwell and was the son of Frederick a hairdresser and Edith Robinson née Stanley of 12 Queen Street, Southwell. His father Frederick was born in 1866 at Lincoln and his mother Edith Stanley was born in 1867 at Newark, they were married in 1892 at Newark, they had a further son Frank born in 1895 also at Southwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at Queen Street, Southwell and are shown as Frederick 45 yrs a hairdresser, he is living with his wife Edith 44 yrs she is assisting in his business, they are living wit their sons Frank 16 yrs an apprentice in the business and Walter 14 yrs an apprentice.
Lance Corporal Walter Robinson enlisted at Newark on 24th January 1916 and served with the 2/8th battalion, Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He served with the regiment during the Irish Rebellion. Landed in France in February 1917 and was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Served through Irish rebellion and went to France in February 1917. Killed when unlucky shell landed in the middle of his company
