Family History

Harold was the son of Charles Edward and Caroline Bradley Jeffcock, (née Firth ) of Welham Hall, Retford, and grandson of the late Mark Firth, of Oakbrook, Sheffield. He was the brother of Philip Eric, William Henry, Thomas Roy and Frances Jeffcock. In 1911 the family lived at Wales Manor Wales Sheffield along with six servants. He was married in July 1911, to Amy Millicent, second daughter of F.W. Stobart, of Bromham Hall, Bedford, and they had a daughter Elizabeth born 1912 and a son Richard Charles William born 1914. His probate which was proven in London on 3rd October 1917 shows him as Harold Charles Firth Jeffcock of the Elms, Beighton, Derbyshire Lieutenant in H M Army died 30th May 1917 in France to Amy Millicent Jeffcock, widow his effects £3910. 2s 6d.

Military History

Harold Jeffcock joined the Army in March, 1915, he serving with the Yorkshire Dragoons (Queen's Own) Yeomanry when he was Gazetted on 29th March 1915 to the Sherwood Foresters as Second Lieutenant. . He went with his Regiment to Ireland on the outbreak of the rising in April, 1916, where he remained till the following January, when he went to France as Intelligence Officer on the Brigadier-General's Staff, subsequently rejoining his own Regiment as Adjutant. He was severely wounded at Lempire on May 27th, 1917, and died of his wounds three days later. He was buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery, Somme

Lieut. H.C.F. Jeffcock Worksop Guardian 8 June 1917 'Mr and Mrs C.E. Jeffcock, of Welham Hall, Retford, formally of Wales Court, Wales, have to mourn the loss of a gallant son in Lieut. Harold Charles Firth Jeffcock, Sherwood Foresters, who died on May 30th of wounds received in action, two days previously. Lieut. Jeffcock was 31 years of age and their eldest son. He married Amy Millicent, daughter of Mr and Mrs F.W. Stobart, of Bromham Hall, Bedford. He had his commission in March 1915, and was promoted in the following November. The sympathy of the people in Wales parish will go out to the parents and family in their sad bereavement. The deceased’s brother, Mr Eric Jeffcock, holds a commission in the Royal Flying Corps. The last named will be well known in local cricket circles, having played in the Bassetlaw League for Kiveton Park, Sheffield United, and Collegiate'.
