Family History

Harold Parrish was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Frank a telegraph warehouseman and Sarah Ann Parrish née Cave of 11, Market Place, Carrington, Nottingham.. Frank was born in 1852 at Marton, Warwickshire, Sarah Ann Cave was born in 1862 at Nuneaton Warwickshire, they were married on 16th May 1881 at St Andrews Church, Nottingham, they had 12 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. At the time of the 1911 census Frank 59 yrs a telegraph warehouseman is living with his wife Sarah are living at 11 Market Place with their children George (23), William Edwin (19), Harold (17), Frank (15) and Clarence (6).

Military History

Private Harold Parrish, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 25th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action 9th April 1917. He is buried in Roclincourt Valley Cemetery.(grave ref 2.C.16)

His surname is given as 'Parrish' on all records apart from the Carrington St John memorial on which it is spelt 'Parish'.Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 9 May 1917: PARRISH killed in action April 8th(?) Pte Harold Parrish Northumberland Fusiliers of 11 Market Place, Carrington, age 23, mother, father, brothers, sisters.Obituary published 'Nottingham Evening Post,' 9th May 1917 :- “PARRISH. – Killed in action, April 9th, Private Harold Parrish, N.F., late of Hosezene Co., Carrington.
