Richard William was born in 1896 at Weeting in Norfolk and was the son of Terrell a gamekeeper and Martha Maria Flack, née Malt of Bilborough, Nottingham. His father Terrell was born in 1865 at Lackenheath, Suffolk , his mother Martha Maria Malt was born in 1864 in Weeting, Norfolk, they were married in St Judes Church, Peckham London on 17th September 1887. They went on to have 6 children , who were James Henry b1889 Hatcham, Lillian b1890 Peckham London, , George Terrell b1892 Weeting Norfolk, Jane b1894 Weeting Norfolk, Richard William b1896 Weeting Norfolk and Elsie May b1901 Blidworth. In the 1901 census the family have moved into Nottinghamshire and were living at Gate House, Blidworth Dale at Blidworth which is where their youngest daughter Elsie May was born. By the 1911 census the family are living at Bilborough, Nottingham and are shown as Terrell Flack 46 yrs head of the family a game keper , he is living with his wife Martha Maria 47 yrs and their children , James Henry 22 yrs, George Terrell 19 yrs a tobacco Factory blender,William Richard 15 yrs a milk delivery drive for a farmer and Elsie May 10 yrs a scholar.
Driver Richard William Flack, Headquarters, 11th Division Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery, died of wounds on 2nd December 1915. He is buried in Hill 10 Cemetery, Suvla.(grave ref II.A.3) His two brothers James Henry Flack and George Terrell Flack also served in the Great War in the Royal Army Medical Corps, they survived.
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 2nd December 1916 : - “FLACK. – In loving memory of our dear lad, Dick, who died of wounds received in action in the Dardanelles, December 2nd, 1915, aged 19 years. Though loved ones knoweth not, his Father knoweth, where he lay, and angels guard the spot. – From his loving mother, father, sisters, and brothers (in France). Killed in Gallipoli, December 2nd 1915 aged 19. Buried Anafarta Sagir : Suvla [Sulva] Bay.'
