Henry Herbert Owen Stafford was born in 1895 at Hogmaston and was the youngest son of William Webster Stafford a tailor and outfitter and Mary Stafford née Hawkins of Hogmaston village, Derbyshire. His father William Webster was born in 1854 at Kniveton and his mother Mary Hawkins was born in 1856 also at Kniveton, they were married on 28th April 1880 at Hogmanston parish church, they went on to have the following children, Millicent Annie b1881, Ellen Elizabeth b1883, Mary Eliza b1886, John George William b1888, Clement Arnold Sam b1891, Zaccheus Francis Hawkins b1893 and Henry Herbert Owen b1895.In the 1911 census his parents are living at Hogmanston and are shown as William Webster Stafford 57 yrs a tailor and outfitter, he is living with his wife Mary 55 yrs and their son Zaccheus Francis Hawkins 18 yrs single a tailors assistant.In the same 1911 census we find that Henry has left the family home and is boarding at Foxholes, Kniveton, he is shown as being 15 yrs a single and a farm pupil , he is liivng with George Wigley 70 yrs a widowed farmer.
Second Lieutenant Henry Herbert Owen Stafford served with the 10th battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment he landed in France on 20th April 1916 and was killed in action on 4th October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
