Family History

George Richardson was born in 1889 at Halam and was the son of Samuel a farm labourer and Mary Richardson née Dixon of Easthorpe, Southwell. Nottinghamshire. His father Samuel was born in 1842 at Halam and his mother Mary Dixon was born in 1851 at Woodborough, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born at Halam, William b1883, John b1885, Sarah b1888 and George b1889. In the 1911 census the family are living at Easthorpe, Southwell and are shown as Samuel 69 yrs a farm labourer, he is living wit his wife Mary 60 yrs and their son George 22 yrs a carter for a coal dealer.

Military History

Gunner George Richardson, enlisted at Newark whilst residing at Southwell. He served with the 117th Brigade Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery and landed in France on 19th September 1915 . He died of dysentery in Malta on 21st October 1916, he is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
