Peter Frederick (also known as Frederick) was the son of John Thomas and Hannah (also Annie) Hudson (née Baxter). His father John Thomas was born in Kegworth, Derbyshire, in 1855 (A/M/J Shardlow Derbyshire), the son of Peter and Sarah Hudson (née Parker). His mother Hannah was born on 7 September 1855, also in Kegworth, the daughter of John and Hannah Baxter; she was baptised in the parish church on 2 March 1856. John Thomas (22) and Hannah (23) were married at Kegworth parish church on 27 February 1878; both were living in Kegworth. They had two children who were both born in Kegworth: Peter Frederick birth registered 1879 (J/F/M Shardlow) bap. Kegworth 17 August 1879 and Sarah Ellen birth registered 1881 (J/F/M Shardlow) bap. Kegworth 20 March 1881. In 1881 John (25), a farm labourer, and Hannah (26) were living in Meeting Yard, Kegworth, with their two children, Peter (2) and Sarah (under one year). By 1891 they had moved to Bridge Fields, Station Road, Kegworth, and John was a foreman at the plaster mine. Also in the household was his wife Annie (sic) and daughter Sarah together with a boarder, John Hubbard, a general labourer. On the night of the census Peter was in the home of his paternal grandparents, Peter and Sarah Hudson, at Bridge Lane, Kegworth. John and Annie were still living in Kegworth in 1901 but now on Derby Road. Both children were still at home, Peter a locomotive foreman, and Sarah a hosiery hand. Sarah Ellen married Herbert Henry Holwell two years later in 1903 and in 1911 they were living at 38 Cranmer Street, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Also in the household on the night of the census was her mother, Annie, who was listed on the census as a visitor. John Thomas, now a manager at the gypsum mine, was in the marital home in Kegworth. Peter had married Kate Alice Lowe (b. Kegworth 1880), in Kegworth parish church on 8 June 1901. The marriage register records that Peter was a guard, presumably with a railway company. In 1911 they were living on Moor Lane, Gotham, with their two children John Harwood (b. Kegworth) and May (b. Kingston on Soar); Peter was now a foreman at the gypsum mine. The CWGC record gave Peter's parents' address as Charnwood Cottages, Derby Road, Kegworth, Derby. John Thomas, died on 3 June 1928 (buried Kegworth 6 June); the probate record gave his home address as Derby Road, Kegworth. His widow died at the end of the same year. Peter Frederick was killed in action on 14 July 1916. The CWGC record gave his widow's address as 3 Babbington Place, North Sherwood Street, Nottingham.
