Sidney was born in 1898 at Hucknalll and was the son of Samuel a coal miner and and Lois Randle née Collins of 33 Annesley Road, Hucknall. His father Samuel was born in 1869 in Ibstock, Leicestershire and his mother Lois Collins was born in 1875 at Hucknall, they were married in 1894, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they had a further son John Randle born 1896 at Hucknall. In the 1911 censes the family were living at 33 Annesley Road, Hucknall and were shown as Samuel 42 yrs a coal miner, he was living with his wife Lois 36 yrs and their children, John 15 yrs a law student and Sidney 13 yrs a scholar.
Lance Corporal Sidney Randle, enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 16th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Chatsworth Rifles), he was killed in action on 22nd September 1917. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
His brother John Randle also enlisted on 10th December 1915 at Hucknall, he was 20 yrs and 2 months old, he was a college student and was living at 33 Annesley Road, Hucknall, his next of kin was his father Samuel of the same address. He was posted to the reserves the same day and mobilised for war on 25th January 1916 when he was posted to the Royal Sussex Regiment. later transferring to the South Wales Borders. He landed in France on 2nd February 1917 and was wounded , a gun shot wound to his left foot on 1st August 1917. Following recovery from his wounds he continued to serve on the Western Front and was transferred to the Military Foot Police. He was discharged from the Army to class Z Army Reserves on 15th January 1919.
