Family History

Arthur Harvey was born in 1883 the son of James Harvey a colliery winding engineman of 61 Co-operative Avenue Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and the late Betsy Ann Harvey née Williamson. James was born in 1859 at Chesterfield, Betsy Ann Williamson was born in 1861 at Ripingale, Lincolnshire, married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Mary Maud b1880 Kirkby, Beatrice Annie b1881 Kirkby, Arthur b1883 Kirkby John James b1887 Hucknall, Betsy Ann b1889 Hucknall, Florence b1891 Hucknall, Hilda b1896 Hucknall and Frank b1901 Hucknall. Arthur Harvey married Edith Freeman Langley (born 26th March 1885 ) in Nottingham in 1908 they lived at 202 Beardall Street Hucknall Torkard and they went on to have the following children, James Ernest born 1st July 1909, Phillip Arthur born 23rd August 1911 Leonard born 6th April 1914 and Mable born 22nd August 1917. In the 1911 census Arthur is living at 41 Co Operative, Ave, Hucknall, he is shown as being 27 yrs and a grocers assistant, he is living with his wife Edith 26 yrs and their son James Ernest 1 year of age. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 61 Co Operative, Ave, Hucknall and are shown as James 51 yrs a colliery winding engineman, he is living with his wife Betsy Ann 49 yrs and their children, John James 24 yrs a coal miner haulage, Betsy Ann 22 yrs no occupation listed, Florence 20 yrs no occupation listed, Hilda 15 yrs a pinafore ironer and Frank 10 yrs a scholar. Following Arthur's death his widow Edith was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 23rd December 1918.

Military History

Private Arthur Harvey enlisted at Hucknall, he initially served with the service number 53941 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with the 14th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 27th May 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial.
