Employment, Education or Hobbies In 1901 he was an errand boy and in 1911 a Water Works inspector. He attended St Mark's church, Mansfield, and was a member of the choir.
Family History

He was the son of John and Selina Watson who had four children; Ellen, Alfred, Ernest and Edith. John was born in Derbyshire and Ada in Coventry; all their children were born in Mansfield. In 1891 John, a coal miner, his wife and family were living at 3 Duke Street, Mansfield. Ten years later in 1901 they had moved to 15 Duke Street and all four children were living at home: Ellen (16) a laundry ironer, Alfred (14), an errand boy, Ernest (13) a printer's errand boy and Edith M. (10) who was still at school. By 1911 John and Selina were living at 56 Victoria Street, Mansfield. Only three children were still at home: Alfred, now a water works inspector, Ernest, a blacksmith and Edith, a hosiery hand. There was also a lodger in the household, George Ball (38) a miner. Harold married Elizabeth Kirkland in 1914. They lived at The Yews, East Bridgford. Elizabeth was Harold's legatee. His father died on 7 October 1927 aged 67 years.

Military History

1st 4th (Hallamshire) (T.F.) Battalion. Formerly 6357, North Staffordshire Regiment. He is buried in Duhallow ADS Cemetery (grave ref. A.14). He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

RIP' Inscription on family gravestone, Mansfield (Nottingham Road) Cemetery: 'In loving memory of John beloved husband of Selina Watson, died Oct. 7th 1927 aged 67 years. Also Alfred the beloved son of the above killed in action March 21st 1918 aged 32 years. Interred Ypres.'
