Albert Statham was born in 1887 in Radford and was the son of Thomas a lace maker and the late Clara Statham née Parker of 235, Alfred St., Nottingham. His father Thomas was born in 1866 in Radford and his mother Clara Parker was born in 1866 in Nottingham, they were married in 1885 in Nottingham , they had a further child Thomas Bertie born 1891 in Radford. His mother died in 1898 in Nottingham, she was 32 yrs of age. His father re married to Annie Eliza Sims in Nottingham in 1903 , they went on to have two further children , Mary Ellen b1904 and Ida Annie b1908, both born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 20 Bovill Street, Radford and are shown as Thomas 45 yrs a foundry labourer , he is living with his wife Elixa 36 yrs and his children , Albert 24 yrs a warper, Thomas Bertie 20 yrs a brass bobin winder, Mary Ellen 7 yrs and Ida Annie 3 yrs.
Private Albert Statham, enlisted at Nottingham and served with 1/5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He landed in France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action 11th January 1917. He is buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery,(grave ref I.G.27)
His father Thomas Statham enlisted on 17th December 1914 , he was 49 yrs old, a lace worker living at 23 Edinburgh Street, Radford, his wife Liza was his next of kin. He served with the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters and later was transferred to 161st Protection Company ,Royal Defence Corps on 29th April 1916. He did not see any service abroad and was disembodied when discharged from the services on 1st March 1919, he discharged address was 33 Oldknow Street, Hyson Green. Death notice published 'Nottingham Evening Post,' 10th February 1917 :- “STATHAN. [sic] – Killed in action, January 11th, 1917, Private A. Stathan, Sherwood Foresters, late of 33, Edinburgh-street.
