George Henry Pilsworth was born in 1885 at Newark and was the son of William a plaster pit labourer and Elizabeth Pilsworth of Newark His father was born in 1851 at Newark and died in 1914 aged 62 yrs, his mother Elizabeth was born in 1853 also at Newark , she died in 1891 aged 39 yrs, they were married prior to 1879 and had the following children, William b1879, Ellen b1882, George Henry b1884 and Frederick b1887, all were born in Newark. Following the death of his parents we find in the 1911 census he was a lodger living at 19 Eldon Street, Newark with the Daubney family and they were shown as Richard Daubney 54 yrs a caster, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 52 yrs and their children, Elizabeth 23 yrs a tailoress, Florence 20 yrs a tailoress, John 15 yrs a labourer , Charles 14 yrs a scholar and George Pislworth 26 yrs a labourer and lodger He was the foster son of Elizabeth Daubney, of 19, Eldon St., Newark.
Lance Corporal George Henry Pilsworth enlisted at Newark and served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 and is buried in Ancre British Cemetery, Somme, France.
Article published 14th August 1917 in the Newark Advertiser :- Nephew of Mrs Elizabeth Daubney, 19 Eldon Street, Newark. Brought up by his aunt and attended Lovers’ Lane Council School. Afterwards employed by Messrs. Simpson & Co., Lowfield, Balderton until enlistment in the Welbeck Rangers at Nottingham. Posted missing in September 1916 and declared dead in August 1917. Has one brother serving.
