Joseph Pamment was born in 1895 at Newark and was the son of John a labourer and Emma Pamment née Gamble of 33 Sleaford Road Newark. His father John was born in 1854 at Isleham, Cambridgeshire and his mother Emma Gamble was born in 1853 at Swaffham, they were married in 1876 at Dewsbury and went on to have 7 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were John William b1878 Dewsbury, MinnIe b1882 Grantham and Joseph b1895 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 33 Sleaford Road, Newark and are shown as John 57 yrs a labourer in a boiler shop he is living with his wife Emma 58 yrs and their children Minnie 29 yrs no occupation listed and Joseph 16 yrs a porter in a furniture shop.
Rifleman Joseph Pamment enlisted at Newark, he initially served with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps before transferring to the Rifle Brigade. He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
