Family History

George Kent was born in 1890 at Gamston and was the son of Noah Newsome Kent a sand quarry labourer and his first wife the late Mary Jane Kent , née Walker His father Noah Newsome was born in 1861 at Everton, Nottinghamshire and his mother was born in 1870 Tuxford, she died in 1891 aged 21 yrs her death was registered in the Southwell Reigstration district, they were married in 1886 at Southwell and went on to have 2 children, Lillian Annie b1889 and George b1890 He married his wife Edith Ann Scrimshaw in 1909 at Southwell they lived at 1 Wheatley's Yard Chatham Street Newark they went n to have a daughter Edith born in 1912 at Newark. In the 1911 census George is living wife his wife Edith at 3 Chatham Street, Newark, and are shown as George 21 yrs a miller, he is living with his wife Edith 20 yrs.

Military History

Lance Corporal George Kent served with the 1/5th battalion East Lancashire Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd June 1918 and is buried at Bertrancourt Military Cemetery, Somme, France.

Extra Information

Article published on 24th July 1918 in Newark Advertiser :- Resided with wife and little girl at 1 Wheatley’s Yard, Chatham Street, Newark. Previous to joining the Lincolns in April last year, was a machinist at Messrs. Ransomes. Went to the front in October and was killed at night while on a mining party.
