Ernest H Kelham

Ernest was the son of Arthur Robert Kelham and his wife Harriet nee Cobb. His father Arthur Robert was born in Northampton on 30 January 1870 the son of Henry and Ann Kelham; he was baptised in Maidwell, Northampton, on 23 February 1870. His mother Harriet was born in Newark in 1871 (O/N/D Newark, Cobb-Judson). They were married in 1892 (J/A/S Newark) and had seven children: Annie b. Newark 23 May 1893 (A/M/J Newark), Ernest b. Newark 5 November 1895, Minnie b. Newark 18 May 1897 (A/M/J Newark), Elsie b. Newark 2 July 1899 (J/A/S Newark), Rosetta b. Dennington Yorkshire 1 August 1906 (J/A/S Worksop), Katherine b. Balderton 8 July 1908 (J/A/S Newark), and John Arthur b. Newark 18 September 1911 (O/N/D Newark). In 1901 Arthur (31), a bricklayer, and Harriet (30) were living at 174 Barnby Gate, Newark, with their children Annie (7), Ernest (5), Minnie (3) and Elsie (1). By 1911 the family was living at 5 Nicholson Street, Newark. Arthur, Harriet and five of their six children were in the home on the night of the census: Ernest (15) an iron moulder, Minnie (13), Elsie (11), Rosetta (4) and Katherine (2). The youngest child, John Arthur, was born at the end of the year. Arthur and Harriet were still living at 5 Nicholson Street in 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled. Arthur had retired as bricklayer. Two unmarried daughters were living at home: Elsie, an inspector (ball bearing company) and Katherine, a clerk (ball bearing company). Harriet probably died in April 1950 while Arthur died in 1957 (O/N/D Newark). Of Ernest's siblings: Annie married Frank Wass (b. 9 March 1891) in 1917 (A/M/J Newark). In 1939 they were living at 2 Danum Road, Doncaster; Frank was an incorporated accountant. Also in the home was their son Ernest R. (b. 29 May 1919), an apprentice to an electric installation engineer. Annie died in 1974 (J/A/S Newark). Minnie married Fred Bland (b. 14 October 1900) in 1928 (A/M/J Newark). In 1939 they were living at 29 Stanley Street, Newark; Fred was an engineer's fitter. Minnie died in 1988 (A/M/J Newark). Elsie was living with her parents at 5 Nicholson Street in 1939. She died in 1972 (J/A/S Newark). Rosetta was still living with her parents in 1931 but married Walter Hinchley (b. 14 August 1904) in 1938 (O/N/D Newark). In 1939 she and Walter were living at 58 Bancroft Road, Newark; Walter was a boiler maker's rivetter. Rosetta died in 1990 (J/A/S Nottingham). Katherine was living with her parents at 5 Nicholson Street in 1939 but married Thomas A Elsom in 1943 (J/A/S Newark). She died in 1989 (J/A/S Newark). John Arthur married Gladys Jeffries in 1939 (J/A/S Newark) and after their marriage lived at 14 Windsor Avenue, Newark. John was a bank cashier. He probably died in 1996 (J/F/M Keighley Yorkshire).
