Family History

Christopher Thomas Hammond and Betsy Hall married in 1885 in Mansfield and straight after made their home in Worksop. Their home was in 44 Westgate where they had eight children, Laura, Caroline, Edward, Thomas, John, Ethel, William and Nellie, all born in Worksop. Christopher was employed working as a miner in the local colliery. Edward, their third child, married in 1910, in Worksop, to Ethel Richardson and had two children, Christopher J T in 1912 and George W in Mar 1917. The remainder of the family were living at 148 Newcastle Ave by 1911.

Military History

Edward enlisted at Worksop, was drafted to France where he was killed and his commemoration is on the Tyne Cot Memorial, France

Extra Information

There are 2 E Hammond's on both the Worksop Cenotaph memorial and the Worksop Priory memorial, but we cannot find and trace of this second casualty in CWGC or SDGW. Research by Colin Dannatt
