Family History

Ronald Griffin was born in 1890 the son of Joseph a railway guard and Martha Griffin née Knifton of 24 Brookhill Street, Stapleford, Nottingham Joseph was born in 1850 at Upton on Severn, Worcestershire Martha Knifton was born in 1860 at Wymswold, Leicestershire, married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration District. They went on to have 4 children all of whom were born at Stapleford, James b1886, Sarah Elizabeth b1888, Ronald b1890 and Annie b1893. In 1911 the family lived at 24 Brookhilll Street, Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, Joseph a railway guard, Martha and their children, Sarah Elizabeth a shop assistant, Ronald a clerk in the Co Operative store and Annie a milliner.

Military History

Private Ronald Griffin enlisted at London, he initially served with the service number 37620 in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 18th August 1917 whilst serving with the 12th battalion, Highland Light Infantry and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery
