William Allured Davison was born in 1896 at Balderton and was the son of Matthew a maltsters labourer and Kate Davison née Freeborough of 10 Sherwood Avenue Newark. His father Matthew was born in 1875 at Newark and his mother Kate Freeborough was born in 1869 at Newark, they were married in 1897 at Newark and had the following children, William b1896 at Balderton, Harry b1897 Newark, Dorothy May b1899 Newark and Edith Mary b1903 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Cherry Holt Lane, Newark and are shown as Matthew 39 yrs a maltsters labourer, he is living with his wife Kate 42 yrs and their children, William 16 yrs a newsboy, Harry 14 yrs an errand boy, Dorothy May 12 yrs a scholar and Edith May 8 yrs.
Private William Allured Davison enlisted at Newark in October 1914 and served with 'B' Coy 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
Article published 24th July 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of Matthew & Kate Davison, 10 Cherryholt Lane, Newark. Educated at the Wesleyan school and afterwards worked at Ransomes. Enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters in Oct. 1914 and was severley wounded in Aug. 1916. Posted missing on 26th Sept. 1917, last seen having been laid out wounded when a shell burst near him. Declared dead in July 1918. Well loved, a quiet and cheerful lad.
