Alfred Turner Warboy was born in Staveley, Derbyshire in 1891. He was named after his father. Alfred Turner War-boys, who had married Emma Agnes King in 1885 registered at Worksop. Whilst living in Back Street, Staveley there were two other brother born there, James in 1887 and Frank in 1886. This family moved on to Retford for a short while and by 1894 were living in Worksop where siblings Eleanor, Ernest and Edith were born.
Pte. Alfred T Warboys Worksop Guardian 30 March 1917 Following the news that Pte. Alfred T Warboys was wounded on the 4th inst .. , his parents on Tuesday of notification that he had been killed in action on that date, but no particulars have been received. Pte. Warboys was the third son of Mr Warboys of Turner Wood. He enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters on January 12th 1915 but was transferred to the Northamptons, on crossing to France in the same year. He was transferred to the Machine Gun Section. He was home on leave this year, and had only been back six weeks when he was killed. The news of his death came as a great shock to his parents and relatives, with whom the deepest sympathy is felt. We hope to re-produce his photograph in the next issue. Before enlisting he worked as a trammer at Shireoaks Colliery. His younger brother, Pte Ernest Warboys, R.E., has been in France two years.
