George was born in 1893, his mother was Sarah Wright of Sheperd's Yard, Calverton. He was a farm labourer. He married to Gladys Evelyn Measham, spinster, of 24 Edwin Street, Daybrook, Arnold, Nottingham, on 23rd December 1916. The CWGC record gives his widow Gladys' address as 187 Mansfield Road, Daybrook
George Wright attested on 20th March 1915 at Nottingham, aged 22yrs and 5 months. He named his mother Sarah as his next of kin. He served with the 3rd Battalion Leceistershire Regiment. George was discharged on 10th May 1918 at Ripon, no longer fit for war service due to a gun shot wound (GSW) to his head which had left him with a fractured skull. He was 26 yrs of age, 5 feet seven inches tall with a 36 inch chest measurement, occupation farm labourer and intended place of residence 11 Nelson Square, Portland Road, Daybrook, Arnold, Nottingham. George was described as 'honest, sober and reliable'. George died from his wounds six months later on 24th November 1918, 13 days after the Armistice was signed. He was buried in Calverton Cemetery, Nottinghamshire (grave ref. 549).
