Family History

Born in 1879, he was the son of John and Sarah Hucknall. The family was living in Burton Joyce in 1881. John was a groom/coachman and Sarah was a dressmaker. They had nine children of whom seven survived. By 1891 John had become a joiner and wheelwright and they were living on Main Street in Burton Joyce. Arthur was still at school. By 1901 Arthur had left school and was working as a stock room clerk for the lace trade. Arthur married Nellie Leafe from Lambley. They had two sons Cyril (1907) and Burnie Joseph (1909). They went to live with his parents and brother at Ivy Cottage, Burton Joyce Nottingham.

In memoriam published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 12th April 1918 :- “HUCKNALL. – In loving memory of my dear son, Pte. Arthur Hucknall, killed in action, France, April 12th, 1917.
