Henry Bennett was born on 21st April 1891 at Watford, he was baptised on 20th November 1892 at St Peters Church, Ruddington he was the son of John a lamp lighter and Sarah Bennett née Wilson of Shaw Street, Ruddington. John was born in 1857 Sarah Wilson was born in 1851 both were born in Ruddington, they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children were Arthur, Frederick, Martha, Polly and Sarah. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Shaw Street, Ruddington, John 55 yrs is a lamp lighter, he is living with his wife Sarah 63 yrs,

Military History

Private Henry Bennett enlisted on 3rd September 1914 at Herefod, he was living at The Grove, Watford he served with the Herefordshire Regiment and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 18th May 1916. He was killed in action on 12th October 1916 and is buried at Lonsdale Cemetery, Authuille Grave Reference: VII A 6
