He was the son of Henry and Rachael Marsh. He was the husband of Gertrude Mary and the father of Edith Mary, George and Harold Marsh. They lived on Wallstone Place Sutton in Ashfield.
Harold Marsh went to Gallipoli with the battalion and also served in Egypt for six months prior to the move to France on 1 July 1916. He fought at Thiepval in September 1916 and Messines in June 1917. In July the battalion found itself holding a brigade front prior to 3rd Ypres. They had dugouts near La Belle Alliance Farm, Ypres and a support line near Hill Top Farm. On 23 July, 'C' company relieved 'B' company in the front line and the artillery was once again active and heavy. At some point during that day Harold was killed and buried in the small battlefield cemetery next to La Belle Alliance Farm. This would become La Belle Alliance cemetery and Harold lies in grave C.4.
